Residential facilities for older adults and/or people with disabilities who are unable to function in an independent living environment because they need assistance with toileting, bathing, dressing, medication management and administration, meals and housekeeping and other activities of daily living, but do not require nursing care on a regular basis. Living options range from institutions to settings that enable individuals with disabilities to live in their own homes or apartments with supportive services from community-based supported living providers. Eligibility: Eligible for services under the Division of Developmental Disabilities. A Shared Living Arrangement (SLA) is a residential option for adults with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) who reside in Rhode Island who are in need of 24 hour care.

Community Connections provider developing job skills
Provider Profiles: The Shared Living (SLA) model is based on carefully matching a person in need of support with a host family in a natural home, as opposed to an institutional environment. The person receiving support is an active participant in the process of selecting the host family. Services include having supports, meals and activities that are a good fit for them.
The host family is a paid contractor for their services.
