First Connections
First Connections at Children’s Friend provides free, voluntary, confidential home visits in Central Falls, Cranston, Pawtucket and Providence to pregnant women and families with young children, birth to age three.
Healthy Families America

Healthy Families America is a national evidence-based maternal and child home visiting program that provides free, voluntary, confidential services. The program pairs expectant mothers or families with newborns with a Family Support Worker, who provides home visiting services to the family and their child until the child’s fourth birthday.

Nurse Family Partnership

Nurse-Family Partnership is a national evidence-based maternal and child home visiting program that provides free, voluntary, confidential services to expectant first-time mothers and then their newborns. The program pairs expectant mothers with a registered nurse, who provides intensive home visiting services to the mother and her child until the child’s second birthday.

Home visiting programs First Connections and Healthy Families America 

Family Care Community Partnerships (FCCP) Serving families with children under age 18 (up to 21 in certain cases) at risk of involvement with the Department of Children, Youth and Families. Family Service of Rhode Island leads a six-agency partnership providing wraparound services to families in Central Falls, Cranston, Pawtucket and Providence. Family Service of Rhode Island is a member of the Washington Kent FCCP serving Washington and Kent Counties. To contact: (401) 789-3016.

Family Coaching and Visitation Center Providing coaching and supervised visitation for children and families who have suffered maltreatment. Families learn new relationship skills in the context of a home environment. Parent education groups and parent-child play groups are offered. Referrals through DCYF.

Family Service of Rhode Island is one of the oldest and largest non-profit human service agencies in Rhode Island. There are a number of locations and programs. See website for specific information.

Offices are located in Providence, with children's residential treatment facilities in Smithfield, North Smithfield, and East Providence.

The Department of Children, Youth and Families is the state child welfare, children's mental health and juvenile corrections services agency which promotes safety, permanence, and well-being of children through partnerships with family, community, and government.

Voluntary Extension of Care ages 18-20

Foster Care and Adoption Information

The goal of foster care is to safely reunite children with their birth families whenever possible. When reunification is not possible, DCYF works with its partner agencies to match a child with an adoptive family. Many children who are adopted from foster care find their “forever families” in the homes of their foster parents.

Child Protective Services Information

CPS operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Investigators receive and screen reports of suspected abuse and neglect on the Department’s hotline (1-800-RI-CHILD) and conduct associated investigations, as needed.

Family Service Unit Information

The Family Service Units division (FSU) of the Department becomes involved with families after a Child Protective Services (CPS) investigation has been conducted and a determination made that services are needed to address abuse, neglect, or dependency within the family.

Division of Community Services and Behavioral Health Information

Community Services & Behavioral Health (CSBH) is responsible for developing a continuum of care for children's behavioral health services that supports children to live in family settings. CSBH encourages services to prevent hospitalization and reviews services to ensure proper matching of services to needs and to improve the quality of and access to services.

The Department recognizes that all families struggle from time to time and need supports they can turn to when they need assistance. These supports range from basic needs to bridging family rifts with the over-arching goal to increase the overall well-being of families. 
Our FCCP agencies, part of DCYF's network of prevention-focused providers, brings community-based services to children and families to build a stronger, brighter futures. 

Juvenile Corrective Services Information

The Division of Juvenile Corrections consists of the Rhode Island Training School and the Office of Juvenile Probation. The Division of Juvenile Corrections promotes the rehabilitation of youth through a continuum of flexible, innovative, and effective programs for male and female youth. The Division of Juvenile Corrections strives to promote positive outcomes for youth and to reduce recidivism for youth within the juvenile and criminal justice systems.

The Department of Children, Youth and Families is charged, under RI General Law §42-72.1, with the licensing, monitoring and enforcement of regulations in all foster homes, residential facilities, and for agencies who place children

Youth and Young Adult Support

Adoption Rhode Island is a private nonprofit organization whose mission is to create safety, belonging and permanency for adopted and foster children, vulnerable youth, and families through compassionate services, advocacy, and education.

Support Groups
The Village currently offers two support groups for foster and adoptive families.
The Peer Support Group is an adult only group. This provides an opportunity for the parent to get out and meet other foster and adoptive parents, to relax and be able to share freely in a non-judgement zone.
The Kinship Care Support Group
For this group, childcare is provided, and kinship caregivers can meet others facing some of the same joys and challenges.

Peer Mentoring
For those who need ongoing or on the spot assistance and answers, the Village offers peer mentoring. A new or experienced foster and/or adoptive parent can be assigned a mentor who has faced similar challenges.

The Open Closet is a service to help resource families find needed items such as clothes, equipment, diapers, books and toys. The Open Closet items are provided through donations and contain both new and gently used items. Open Closet hours are available by appointment.

The Village was incorporated in March 2016 as RI’s only foster and adoptive family founded and governed support organization.

The Mission of the Village is to contribute to the development and maintenance of a robust network of healthy, committed, and well trained resource families for children in RI needing out of home care.

We registered this organization to help families with the gaps in service. We provide tools and activities so that these parents can care for these special children and youth effectively.
