Transition services information

 Transition services are activities and supports designed to help the student to identify his/her interests and strengths so that they can work on the skills needed to be successful in employment and adult living. These services are provided by schools, families, community members, and agency providers. Students set goals, develop a plan to meet the goals, and participate in transition services to begin their preparation for life after high school.

The Rhode Island Adaptive Telephone Equipment Loan (ATEL) Program provides landline/home telephones and wireless devices on loan to qualified individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, have a speech disability, or have neuromuscular damage or disease that hinders them from using a standard telephone. 

A public state and federally-funded program that assists individuals with disabilities to choose, prepare for, obtain, advance in, and maintain competitive integrated employment. 
ORS Counselors provide technical assistance, consultation, information and referral services to school systems and work in close partnership with Regional Educational Collaboratives, netWORKri and other agencies to improve transition planning.

Sponsors annual forums for concerns of people with disabilities.

The forums take place through out the state during the last week of July in honor of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA).

People w/ Special Needs: People with Disabilities and Special Needs have access to the right services, at the right time and in the least restrictive setting. The EOHHS agencies touch the lives of consumers and the communities where they live in a wide variety of ways.

The Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) serves as “the principal agency of the executive branch of state government” (R.I.G.L. §42-7.2-2) responsible for managing the departments of: Health (DOH); Human Services (DHS); Children, Youth and Families (DCYF); and Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH). Last year, these agencies provided direct services to nearly 306,000 Rhode Islanders as well as an array of regulatory, protective and health promotion services to our communities.  Health and human services benefits represent $3.1 billion spending per year, or over 40 percent of the entire state budget.

Eligibility indicates that the child has one or more developmental challenges or diagnostic conditions that are associated with developmental delays. Coverage areas include: Barrington, Burrillville, Central Falls, Coventry, Cranston, Cumberland, East Greenwich, East Providence, Foster, Glocester, Johnston, Lincoln, North Kingstown, North Providence, North Smithfield, Pawtucket, Providence, Scituate, Smithfield, Warren, Warwick, West Warwick and Woonsocket.

1. Full-service EIP: The Groden Center EIP is one of 9 full-service early intervention providers in the state of Rhode Island serving eligible children under the age of three who have been diagnosed with a developmental disability or who may have a developmental delay.

Family Connections, LLC is a private practice counseling agency that provides mental health and substance use treatment to children, adolescents, adults and their families throughout Rhode Island. The RINI Middle College is an open enrollment public charter school that enrolls students from across the state of Rhode Island. As a statewide charter school, we purposefully seek to enroll a demographically diverse student body as essential to our mission of diversifying the future nursing and healthcare workforce. When RINI receives more enrollment applications than available seats, admission is determined through a blind lottery.

RINI Middle College students are afforded a rigorous high school curricula, early college classes, opportunities to earn workforce certificates in health care (First Aid, CPR ,CNA, EMT), and internships/employment in RI health care facilities for exposure to the nursing profession.

Students entering the 9th grade are allowed to enroll as first year students after successfully completing their 8th grade year at another school.

Students who are successful in their first year take a combination of high school and college courses through URI, CCRI, RIC and RWU during their third and fourth years.

The Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter High School, located in Providence, opened during the summer of 2011 to educate the next generation of nurses with a focus on academic rigor, leadership development, and workforce readiness. We are the first public charter high school in the U.S. focused on the profession of nursing and the first middle college in the State of RI.

The mission of the Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College is to prepare a diverse group of students to become the highly educated and professional nursing workforce of the future.
