Rhode Island Hospital is a private, 719-bed, not-for-profit acute care hospital that is a part of Lifespan health system. It is the largest hospital in the state of Rhode Island and has particular expertise in cardiology, oncology, neurosciences, orthopedics, organ transplantation, pediatrics, psychiatry and diabetes. Rhode Island Hospital is the only Level I trauma center for Southeastern New England. 

Services

Our group of pediatric epileptologists, led by director John N. Gaitanis, has extensive expertise in treating children with epilepsy, and they see outpatients in the child friendly environment of the Children's Neurodevelopmental Center (CNDC).

The Comprehensive Epilepsy Program (CEP) at Rhode Island Hospital treats patients with seizures and epilepsy through a multidisciplinary team approach, using the latest diagnostic and therapeutic methods. Our team of experts includes neurologists (epileptologists), neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, neuropsychiatrists, neuroradiologists, and specialized nursing and technical teams, who work together to provide integrated, expert care that is unique in our region.

Ian Michelow, MD is a specialist in pediatric infectious diseases at Hasbro Children's Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital and an associate professor of pediatrics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Sabina Holland, MD is an attending physician and infectious diseases specialist at Rhode Island Hospital, its Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and Bradley Hospital. Dr. Holland is also the diversity officer in the department of pediatrics at Rhode Island Hospital, as well as an assistant professor of pediatrics and associate program director for pediatric infectious disease fellowships at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. 

Dr. Holland is currently the medical director of the pediatric HIV clinic and specializes in improving the transition from pediatric to adult care for adolescents living with HIV, while also helping to develop innovative ways to increase diversity in the medical residency program.

Elizabeth A. Lowenhaupt, MD, FAAP, is currently the associate director of training for the combined triple board program in pediatrics, psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry, and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital.

Dr. Lowenhaupt has conducted most of her clinical work within the child welfare and juvenile justice settings, currently serving as consulting medical and psychiatric director at the Rhode Island Training School, the state's only juvenile correctional facility under the direction of the RI Department of Children, Youth, and Families. She represents the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on the board of the National Commission for Correctional Health Care, where she also serves as the chair of the Juvenile Health Committee.

Forensic psychiatric evaluations

Jamison Rogers, MD, is a psychiatrist at Rhode Island Hospital and training director of the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship at Brown University. Dr. Rogers is a clinical assistant professor in the department of psychiatry and human behavior at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Dental services to all children and intellectually or developmentally disabled patients of all ages.

Pediatric Neurology

William D. Brown, MD, FAAP, is medical director of pediatric neurology at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. He has served as a clinical associate professor of neurology and pediatrics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University for 11 years. He has been an attending physician of pediatrics and neurology at Rhode Island Hospital since 1995.
