It’s a place where families of children with special healthcare needs find support so their children get the best start in life and thrive as they grow. Looking Upwards is a resource for school departments and a variety of professionals, expanding their options for how they serve their communities.

Children must be under age 3 and have a developmental disability or delay in one or more areas. Coverage areas include: Barrington, Bristol, Central Falls, Charlestown, Coventry, Cranston, East Greenwich, East Providence, Exeter, Hopkinton, Jamestown, Johnston, Little Compton, Middletown, Narragansett, New Shoreham, Newport, North Kingstown, North Providence, Pawtucket, Portsmouth, Providence, Richmond, Tiverton, Warren, Warwick, West Warwick, West Greenwich, and Westerly.

Children referred to the Early Intervention Program receive a comprehensive developmental evaluation to determine if they are eligible. One of the goals of Early Intervention is to provide support to families so their children can develop to their fullest potential.
Services are provided in places where children usually play or take part in daily activities. Your comprehensive team of developmental specialists is designed based on your child’s unique needs. Among those who may be on your team are occupational and physical therapists, nurses, educators, speech and language therapists, social workers and service coordinators.

Looking Upwards Early Invention programs also provides services for infant/children with hearing loss.
