The Rhode Island Department of Health( RIDOH) Youth Advisory Council is a dynamic and inclusive group of young people and mentors that meets monthly from September-June. Nationally recognized as an Emerging Practice by the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP), members learn about public health topics and have the opportunity to provide feedback concerning RIDOH programs that impact youth.

The Council also serves as part of the planning committee for the statewide annual student leadership conference titled, Dare to Dream.

Birth Defects Program: Identify and monitor birth defects.

Newborn Hearing Screening Program: Screen and evaluate newborns for early hearing loss. If early hearing loss is detected, referral to services in the community and education and resources are provided.

Newborn Screening and Follow Up: Screen all newborns in Rhode Island for several kinds of disorders such as metabolic, endocrine, hemoglobin, hearing, developmental disorders and more for early identification and treatment to prevent death and disability. 

The Newborn Screening and Follow-Up Program works to screen all newborns in Rhode Island for metabolic, endocrine, hemoglobin, hearing, and developmental risk factors to identify risks at the earliest possible point.

The hours for the Early Learning Center are Monday – Friday, 6:30am to 6:00pm. Federal Hill house accepts private pay and Department of Human Services (DHS) subsidies.

Home Visiting Program Parents as Teachers link

The PAT program engages parents during the critical time of their child’s early formative years (ages 0-4), as well as offers information to detect developmental delays and health issues. Parent peer educators visit families with young children to provide resources and support, and lead monthly playgroups where parents can connect with their peers.

The program is available in both English and Spanish and is a national, evidence-based model funded through the Rhode Island Department of Health. More information on the model can be found at www.parentsasteachers.org.

Our Early Learning Center serves as a safe, educational, and imaginative place for your child to grow. Children ages 18 months to 5 years progress through toddler, pre-school, and Pre-K classrooms, and graduate ready for Kindergarten.

The School Age Child Care (SACC) program offers before and after school programming that engages children with enrichment activities, homework assistance, arts and crafts, outdoor play, and transportation to and from school.

Federal Hill House provides vital community based services to adults, children, seniors, and working families.

Our services are designed to provide clients with opportunities to succeed and achieve their life potential.

Eligible women who are pregnant, breastfeeding a child under one year old and postpartum women who delivered a baby within six months, children birth to five years old and their caregivers (moms, dads, grandparents, foster parents, or guardians) who meet criteria.

Hands in Harmony is a local 501(C) nonprofit organization that practices evidenced-based, replicable interventions, grounded in research. Our Music Therapists provide neurologic music therapy services to those suffering from complex medical conditions (cognitive, social, communicative, behavioral, psychological, sensory-motor, and physical) or deficiencies, as well as to the families and caretakers that support them.

Our Neurologic Music Therapists are board-certified, licensed through the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and hold additional certifications in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT). We provide virtual, telehealth and in-person services for groups, individuals and families/caregivers. 

Hands in Harmony helps all people reach their true potential using proven music therapy interventions grounded in neuroscience to overcome a range of physical and psychological problems. Hands in Harmony’s model is grounded in local research and ensures effectiveness and integrated collaboration that broadens services and client impact.

Our team is comprised of highly qualified licensed music therapists and other highly qualified professionals.

State wide youth led conference with national speakers

• Focus on social and emotional health learning areas, by introducing programming that will serve as ongoing foundations of knowledge and skill building.
• Provide a conference design that includes participatory pre-work to inform event-day programming and tailor activities to individualized abilities.
• Engage 500 youth with special healthcare needs and diverse learners by providing a fun, rich learning experience and creating leadership frameworks participants can pull from before, during, and after the conference.

Dare to Dream (D2D) is a learning pathway for youth with special healthcare needs and diverse learners in grade 8 to age 21. The D2D Initiative focuses on creating and providing resources and activities to assist youth in developing and leading healthy lives as they move through transitional periods.

The Rhode Island Department of Health, in collaboration with State partners including the Office of Rehabilitation Services and Rhode Island Department of Education, have held an annual D2D youth leadership conference for more than ten years.

About RI MomsPRN

The Rhode Island Maternal Psychiatry Resource Network (RI MomsPRN) is a free psychiatric telephone consultation service for health care providers who treat pregnant and postpartum women. RI MomsPRN is a collaborative project between the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and Women & Infants Center for Women’s Behavioral Health, funded by a five-year grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

It was established to build the capacity of providers to screen for behavioral health and substance use disorders in their pregnant and postpartum patients, and respond with appropriate treatment and referral.

Supporting the speech, language, and literacy skills of school-age children and adolescents (PreK-12).

Engaging, research-based sessions focused on building speech, language, and literacy skills.

Speech-language pathologist, Brittany Ciullo, M.A. CCC-SLP is licensed by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), and the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH).

She holds a Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics and Psychology from the University of Connecticut. Prior to becoming an SLP, she worked in a cognitive neuroscience lab at Brown University, an experience which heavily informs her scientific, evidence-based approach to speech therapy. Her specialization is supporting the speech, language, and literacy skills of school-age children and adolescents (PreK-12).
