The Hasbro Children’s Hospital Emergency Department provides pediatric emergency care, acute critical care, and stabilization, as well as:

Children or teens whom providers decide need urgent, but not emergency, psychiatric care are referred to the PACE (Psychiatry Access, Continuity, and Evaluation) Clinic. The clinic provides short-term, outpatient psychiatric care until a child or teen can begin an ongoing treatment program. Appointments are arranged through referrals from the pediatric emergency department or other channels.

The Pediatric Emergency Department (ED) at Hasbro Children’s Hospital is the only emergency department in the region dedicated to the emergent and urgent medical needs of children and adolescents, caring for children and adolescents from birth to age 18 and beyond. With more than 53,000 visits per year, the Hasbro emergency department provides a significant proportion of the emergency and pediatric referral care to families in Rhode Island and surrounding regions.

As the regional tertiary care children’s hospital and Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, the Hasbro Children's ED is staffed 24 hours a day by board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians and pediatric emergency nurses with access to pediatric surgeons and other pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists.

The Children's Neurodevelopment Center (CNDC) at Hasbro Children's Hospital provides evaluation and treatment of children with neurological, genetic, developmental, metabolic and behavioral disorders. The center incorporates multidisciplinary care with pediatric urology, orthopedics, neurosurgery and craniofacial programs.

The Pediatric Sleep Program at Hasbro Children's Hospital provides evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for babies, children and adolescents with sleep disorders.

Hasbro Children's Hospital is the only children's hospital in southeastern New England with a sleep center dedicated to children and adolescents.

The lab offers more medical support than typical sleep research facilities, ensuring that children with complex medical issues receive constant monitoring. Our team of experts includes physicians, pediatric pulmonologists and child psychologists, who work together to provide integrated, expert care that is unique in our region.

The department of pediatric rehabilitation offers specialized services for pediatric patients who need physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology or audiology services. We provide both short-term and long-term rehabilitation services.

Pediatric rehabilitation services at Lifespan include occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, audiology, and neurological and pain consultations for children and adolescents who have physical, developmental, and sensory motor challenges; have experienced injuries; or have other medical needs.

Our facilities in Providence, East Providence (COAST Clinic at Bradley Hospital), East Greenwich, Lincoln and Central Falls provide continuation of care in an outpatient setting. We will be able to refer you to the location that can best provide the appropriate services and resources.

Jason Shapiro, MD, is a pediatric gastroenterologist and director of research in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Nutrition and Liver Diseases, director of the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Hasbro Children's Hospital, academic director, division of pediatric gastroenterology, nutrition and liver diseases; and an associate professor of pediatrics and medicine; and clinician educator at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Dr. Shapiro is certified in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition. 

Jason Shapiro, MD, is a pediatric gastroenterologist in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Nutrition and Liver Diseases, director of the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Hasbro Children's Hospital, and an assistant professor of pediatrics and clinician educator at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

The Eating Disorder Program at Hasbro Children’s Hospital provides multidisciplinary, family-centered care for children and adolescents with eating disorders. 

Our program includes comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical, nutritional and mental health services to promote and maintain physical and mental well-being.

We work closely with the Medical Psychiatric Program at Hasbro Children's Hospital. Its Partial Hospital Program offers structured care during the school day for children and adolescents with medical and emotional issues, while its Inpatient Program provides more intensive inpatient psychiatric care for patients with medical problems.

The Children's Neurodevelopment Center (CNDC) at Hasbro Children's Hospital provides evaluation and treatment of children with neurological, genetic, developmental, metabolic and behavioral disorders. The center incorporates multidisciplinary care with pediatric urology, orthopedics, neurosurgery and craniofacial programs.


The center is located on Prairie Avenue, in an area designed to be particularly spacious, comfortable and welcoming to children and their parents, who are essential partners in their children's care.

The Pediatric Heart Center offers a clinic for the evaluation and treatment of patients who have hyperlipidemia. Our lipid clinic takes a multidisciplinary approach to management and understands the central role of partnering with the family when designing individual treatment plans. All the clinic's services are available at one convenient location.

The focus of the Lipid Clinic is inherited (familial) hyperlipidemia. We have an experienced nutritionist and exercise physiologist on our team to provide nutrition and exercise prescriptions for each patient. There is also an on-site laboratory for blood work, when necessary.

Pediatric cardiologists James Ziegler, MD, and Sara Ford, MD, collaborate with Pediatric Heart Center staff to accommodate families and design individual treatment plans for each patient.
