Services Provided: FRIENDS WAY offers open-ended groups for children ages 3-18 and their families after the death of a loved one. The groups meet on alternating Monday's, Tuesday's and Wednesday's throughout the school calendar year. Families arrive at 6:30pm for dinner and group concludes around 8:15pm. There is no fee charged for participation in our programs. Prior to the arrival of the families, the facilitators meet with the clinician to discuss the new families (i.e. Who died? When? How? How is the family coping as a unit and individually) and review the group activities.
Provider Profiles: FRIENDS WAY (Families Reaching Into Each New Day) is the only family bereavement center in Rhode Island and serves families throughout Southeastern New England. FRIENDS WAY remains steadfast in our commitment of providing peer support to grieving families in a safe, nurturing environment and is staffed with mental health professionals and extensively trained volunteers from the community who assist children and their families through their grief with comfort and support from peers struggling with similar feelings of loss.
