Programs that provide reading and writing instruction for individuals of all ages who are unable to read or write at a functional level. Some programs interpret literacy more broadly and also help people develop speaking, computation and problem solving skills with the objective of ensuring that they develop levels of proficiency they will need to become self sufficient and function well in society. (AIRS HH 4500) Included are English as a Second Language and other similar language-specific programs.

The Children’s Reading Foundation focuses on engaging parents and caregivers in a child’s learning, beginning from birth. Our early literacy and learning programs and campaigns provide families, schools and communities the knowledge, tools and skills necessary to ensure every child has the strongest literacy and learning beginning to thrive in school and life.

These evidence-based, proven literacy and early learning campaigns and programs are at work across the United States and in Canada, and growing. They are modeled to be replicated and adapted to meet the needs of the communities served, including families in poverty and non-English-speaking families.
