The RINI Middle College is an open enrollment public charter school that enrolls students from across the state of Rhode Island. As a statewide charter school, we purposefully seek to enroll a demographically diverse student body as essential to our mission of diversifying the future nursing and healthcare workforce. When RINI receives more enrollment applications than available seats, admission is determined through a blind lottery.

RINI Middle College students are afforded a rigorous high school curricula, early college classes, opportunities to earn workforce certificates in health care (First Aid, CPR ,CNA, EMT), and internships/employment in RI health care facilities for exposure to the nursing profession.

Students entering the 9th grade are allowed to enroll as first year students after successfully completing their 8th grade year at another school.

Students who are successful in their first year take a combination of high school and college courses through URI, CCRI, RIC and RWU during their third and fourth years.

The Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter High School, located in Providence, opened during the summer of 2011 to educate the next generation of nurses with a focus on academic rigor, leadership development, and workforce readiness. We are the first public charter high school in the U.S. focused on the profession of nursing and the first middle college in the State of RI.

The mission of the Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College is to prepare a diverse group of students to become the highly educated and professional nursing workforce of the future.

Provides group-based learning opportunities for families with asthma.

Providence School Asthma Partnership link
Provides targeted outreach and education for families with children enrolled in public elementary schools in Providence. The partnership also aims to increase awareness among school staff.

Asthma Camp link
Provides children with asthma the opportunity to participate in a week long summer camp. Registration in the spring and fills up fast.

Hasbro Children's Hospital leads community-wide asthma education, management, support and advocacy projects designed to improve the health and quality of life of children with asthma.

Our programs all share a common goal: to assist families in developing the knowledge, motivation and skills to advocate for their children's health and successfully manage asthma.

Our community asthma programs are directed by the Respiratory and Immunology Center at Hasbro Children's Hospital.

Adults and children are eligible if they:

1. Live in South County (Washington County)

1. Live in a household with a child under 18, or someone who is pregnant

1. Receive primary or behavioral health care from a local community health center 

1. Have a physical condition and mental health issues, or have difficulty with substances including tobacco use

Provides "QPR" (Question, Persuade and Refer) suicide prevention training to raise awareness about suicide as a problem in our community, identifies the most common causes of suicidal thinking, feeling and actions, and teaches the trainee three simple skills to help prevent the unnecessary tragedy of suicide. The program is available in Spanish.

A gatekeeper is anyone who is in a position to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and because of their training, knows what to do.

Training includes a QPR booklet for each participant, an expanded list of warning signs, and an expanded list of local resources. ( Fees are negotiated through QPR Institute.)

We also provide training for mental health professionals in suicide assessment and management and triage training programs for crisis lines and other first responders.
