Programs that provide opportunities for people of all ages with functional or cognitive disabilities to learn, become competitive in and enjoy a wide variety of recreational activities and sports, many of which are played in wheelchairs or have otherwise been modified to accommodate the athletes' disabilities. Confidence Is Cool Camp, ages 7-17 , hosted at our facilities in Fort Adams State Park, Newport, Rhode Island, the Confidence is Cool participants enjoy two days of sailing as a highlight of their camp experience. Confidence is Cool is administered in a series of three one-week sessions. (Please see the Calendar for this year’s camp dates.) Each camp session is Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Children may attend more than one week of Confidence is Cool, depending upon space availability.
Provider Profiles: Sail To Prevail creates opportunities for disabled children and adults to overcome adversity through therapeutic sailing. Each year, Sail To Prevail teaches approximately 1,000 people with disabilities the skills of sailing in our fleet of five specially adapted “Independence 20” sailboats. Our programs strongly encourage disabled individuals to be active participants, steering the boat as well as opportunities to grind winches and trim sails. First-time and experienced sailors are welcome at Sail To Prevail. Our program is available to all people with disabilities and is designed to meet specific needs.

Eligibility: Special Olympics training and competition is open to every person with intellectual disabilities who is at least eight years of age and who registers to participate in Special Olympics. There is no maximum age limitation for participation in Special Olympics Rhode Island so long as that person completes the registration process required by the Special Olympics General Rules. Any person wishing to participate must first have a medical exam, a signed Medical Release, a signed Parent/guardian/individual Release and a signed Athlete Code of Conduct.

Services Provided: At the core of all of our programming is our signature summer program. Seven glorious week-long sessions in Ashford, Conn. that serve seriously ill children and one additional week dedicated to their healthy siblings.
