Each summer, approximately 1,000 people with disabilities learn the skills of sailing in our fleet of uniquely adapted, 20-foot sailboats. Our programs strongly encourage disabled individuals to be active participants by steering the boat and trimming sails. The measurable outcomes demonstrate increased self-confidence in all parts of their daily lives, the camaraderie of teamwork, and improved leadership skills. Since 1982, Sail To Prevail has improved the lives of tens of thousands of people through therapeutic sailing programs that focus on improving the mind, body and spirit.

Adaptive Yoga

Since 2010, Shri through its studio and non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Shri Service Corps, has been the only yoga outreach studio and organization in Rhode Island, to serve adults and children with developmental and intellectual disabilities, veterans, children in schools, hospitals and shelters, incarcerated youth and men and women in recovery - every week.

 The state of the art facility hosts programs for gymnastics, an early learning center, dance, pro shop, café, and birthday party rooms.

To be eligible to participate, athletes must be 8 years old and older. There is no age limit. Athletes ages 2 to 7 may participate in our Young Athletes program. School-age children with intellectual disabilities may participate in our Special Olympics Unified Sports school program.

Special Olympics Rhode Island hosts over 40 statewide tournaments and competitions each year in 21 official and demonstration sports.

The mission of Special Olympics Rhode Island is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

All training and competition opportunities are provided free of charge to the athletes and their families, enabling everyone to experience the benefits of Special Olympics that extend well beyond the playing field. Special Olympics was created by the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation. Special Olympics Rhode Island is authorized and accredited by Special Olympics, Inc. for the benefit of persons with intellectual disabilities.

Our instructors have training based on the industry standards set by the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI). Several of our instructors have advanced certifications in various specialties including Adaptive, Freestyle, and Children. 401 A League Of Our Own is a league designed to enable all individuals with special needs what ever their abilities are, to be able to participate in a unified game of T-Ball/Softball this Spring and Fall.

This is a free program to bring everyone together to enjoy the game and make new friends and share ideas about enriching our kids lives and the community.

Cranston Parks and Rec host the games at Flanders Park at 45 Sherman Ave. Cranston RI weather permitting on Saturday mornings (April-June and Sept.-Oct).

This location features a form of climbing called bouldering, where our route setters create body movement puzzles known as “problems” that are set closer to the ground, but offer a stronger focus on community and training.

The hour-long classes provide a positive atmosphere for the exploration of movement while maintaining a focus on the individual abilities of each child. The Adaptive Dance teaching staff is committed to helping each child develop self-confidence. 

Festival Ballet Providence and Meeting Street School have teamed up to offer an Adaptive Dance Program.

Based on a successful program developed by Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Ballet, the program is designed to foster a love of dance and creative expression in children with Down Syndrome. Although the primary goal of the program is for the children to experience the joy of dance and music, it also offers other important benefits. These include improvements in coordination, overall fitness, balance, self-esteem, self-expression, teamwork,  rhythm, and musicality.

Surf therapy combines the therapeutic elements of the ocean with the adventure of surfing to impact the physical and mental well-being of individuals worldwide positively.

Ballet For All Kids is a non-profit program that teaches classical ballet and other dance styles using The Schlachte Method - a certified curriculum developed to accommodate all abilities, body types, and learning styles.
