Programs that provide emotional support, problem-solving assistance, information and guidance for people who have recently lost a loved one. Included are counseling programs for widows and widowers, children who have lost a parent, parents who have lost a child and people who are in other similar situations. (AIRS RP-1400.8000-100)

Family Service of Rhode Island leads a six-agency partnership providing wraparound services to families in Central Falls, Cranston, Pawtucket and Providence. Family Coaching and Visitation Center Providing coaching and supervised visitation for children and families who have suffered maltreatment. Families learn new relationship skills in the context of a home environment. Parent education groups and parent-child play groups are offered. Referrals through DCYF.

Services Provided: FRIENDS WAY offers open-ended groups for children ages 3-18 and their families after the death of a loved one. The groups meet on alternating Monday's, Tuesday's and Wednesday's throughout the school calendar year. Families arrive at 6:30pm for dinner and group concludes around 8:15pm. There is no fee charged for participation in our programs. Prior to the arrival of the families, the facilitators meet with the clinician to discuss the new families (i.e. Who died? When? How? How is the family coping as a unit and individually) and review the group activities.
Provider Profiles: FRIENDS WAY (Families Reaching Into Each New Day) is the only family bereavement center in Rhode Island and serves families throughout Southeastern New England. FRIENDS WAY remains steadfast in our commitment of providing peer support to grieving families in a safe, nurturing environment and is staffed with mental health professionals and extensively trained volunteers from the community who assist children and their families through their grief with comfort and support from peers struggling with similar feelings of loss.
