Biosketch:

Deirdre Caplin, MS, PhD completed a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Purdue University School of Science, her PhD in Clinical Child Psychology from Ohio University, and her clinical internship in Pediatric Psychology at the University of Louisville Medical Center. She has been with the Department of Pediatrics Since 2001 and joined the Division of Behavioral Health in 2009. Dr. Caplin served as an Associate Program Director in the Pediatric Residency Program for 12 years. She is currently the Clinical Director for Med Psych Programs in Pediatric Behavioral Health. Her research interests include the role of learning styles, emotional regulation and wellness in resident performance, as well as the psychological factors influencing pain and functional disability. With her colleagues in Pediatric Behavioral Health, she has developed a program to train providers in communication with children and families, in order to inform clinical care around functional illness and somatic symptom disorders. Dr. Caplin’s clinical practice is focused on the evaluation and treatment of medically ill children and adolescents. She is trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy, clinical pediatric hypnosis, biofeedback and relaxation, and behavioral approaches, with a specific focus on functional improvement, management of chronic fatigue and chronic pain, somatic symptom and associated disorders.
