Families, retirees, school groups, scouts, garden clubs and many more enjoy discovering the natural world with Audubon. The Audubon Society of Rhode Island is an independent, not-for-profit environmental organization dedicated to statewide environmental education, conservation and advocacy. Established in 1897, it is the oldest environmental organization in the state.

A voice in statewide ecological issues, the Society actively fulfills its environmental stewardship through preservation and protection of Rhode Island's natural heritage.

DEDICATED TIME FOR KIDS WITH AUTISM & SPECIAL NEEDS

Chuck E. Cheese is proud to support families who have children with autism and other special needs. Through our Sensory Sensitive Sundays program we’re able to offer families a quieter dining and entertainment environment, dimmed lighting and a sensory-friendly arcade experience. Our sensory-friendly events also include a trained and caring staff to ensure each guest has a safe, fun-filled visit. 

Participating locations will open two hours early on the first Sunday of the month to offer a sensory-friendly experience for families.

The Museum of Work & Culture shares the stories of the men, women, and children who came to find a better life in Rhode Island’s mill towns in the late 19th and 20th centuries.

The imPOSSIBLE DREAM Playground, Rhode Island's first integrated playground, offers an environment that is play friendly for children of all physical abilities.

Open April through October, 10:00 to 3:00  Tuesday through Sunday.

We have a "no admission fee policy" for families; simply leave a donation.

The playground is open for a nominal fee for field trips.  

Our outside pavilions are available for birthday parties or other social functions.

Our instructors have training based on the industry standards set by the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI). Several of our instructors have advanced certifications in various specialties including Adaptive, Freestyle, and Children. Private lessons are available for all ages including for children as young as 3* through adults.

Carousel Village offers Sensory-Friendly Days on the first Tuesday of every month from April through August. They invite those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and sensory processing differences to explore and enjoy Carousel Village.

Located in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains of New York, Camp Mark Seven, is a peaceful, welcoming retreat with a vast array of life-affirming educational, recreational and spiritual programs for deaf, hard of hearing, and KODA/CODA individuals. CM7, established in 1982, is home to outdoor and waterfront activities such as mountain hiking, kayaking, canoeing and swimming. Fun, adventure, safety, and great camaraderie in ASL are our passion for the campers.

Our program is unique and has left a lasting impression on each and every camper and staffer. With campers and participants from all 50 states and several countries, we value full communication access at CM7.

• Applicants under the age of 65, must present a current letter from the Social Security office stating full name, address, current date and that you are receiving monthly disability benefits. Must be renewed annually.


• Applicants over the age of 65 will follow the above steps but do not have to renew annually.


• Disabled Veterans must present current letter from the Veterans Administration stating the following: name, address, date and letter stating you are 100% disabled due to service connected injury. *This pass is required to be renewed each year unless you are no longer required to be reevaluated.

Rhode Island State Parks & Recreation is a division of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Managements (DEM) Bureau of Natural Resources. The Bureau protects, manages, restores, and promotes the state’s wide array of historic parks, beaches, recreational facilities, and green spaces.

Rhode Island State Law 32-1-17: No *fee shall be charged to any person with a disability regardless of age, or to automobiles transporting a non-driver with a disability at any recreational facility owned by the state, provided, however, proper identification is presented as prescribed by the Department of Environmental
Management.

*"fees" shall include all fees for parking, admittance, or other user-fees for playing golf. The term "fees" shall not include licensing fees; camping fees, picnic table fees or specialized facility use fees, including, but not limited to fees for the use of equestrian areas, performing art centers, game fields and mule

Launch Trampoline has sensory sensitive hours that provides a quieter, private time where it is open exclusively to jumpers with special needs, along with their families. 

Sensory hours provide a quieter, toned-down jumping experience for those with special needs. 

Occurs on the second Sunday of every month from 8:30am-10:00am.

The Sarah Jane McCullough Handicapped Play Area–190 Kingstown Road  This playground with equipment from Landscape Structures Inc has poured-in-place safety surfacing and a variety of play panels, overhead events and ramps. In addition, a Sway Fun® glider and Elevated Sand Table provide sensory-rich experiences.   The playground consultant for this playground was O’Brien & Sons.

Hasbro Boundless™ Playground

Located in the Roger Williams Park Carousel Village; left of the Carousel Village Café.

 The colorful, fully enclosed playground with a Mr. Potato Head who greets children of all ages as they enter the park, now boasts a toddler area, slides, drums, play panels throughout the labyrinth of walkways, swings, slides and climbing structures.   Children with physical disabilities can enjoy at least 70% of the play activities without having to leave their support equipment behind.   The equipment from Play & Park Structures is designed to be sensory rich and developmentally appropriate so children with all types of abilities can laugh, play and grow together.  

There is also a 3,500 square foot sensory garden which houses over 500 plants.   Visitors learn about horticulture and the natural world through plants that have different textures, scents and colors.
